Why is Nedocromil sodium prescribed?

Tilade is an anti-inflammatory medication prescribed for use on a regular basis to control symptoms in people with mild to moderate asthma.

Most important fact about Nedocromil sodium

Tilade must be used regularly to be effective, even if you have no symptoms. It improves your condition, but won't help during an acute attack.

How should you take Nedocromil sodium?

Proper inhalation of Tilade is essential for it to be effective. Make sure you understand how to use Tilade correctly, and take exactly the amount prescribed. It may be a week or more before you feel the full effect.

Tilade Inhaler should not be used with other mouthpieces.

Avoid spraying Tilade in your eyes.

--If you miss a dose...

To work properly, Tilade must be inhaled every day at regular intervals. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take double doses.

Store Tilade Inhaler at room temperature. Because the contents are under pressure, do not puncture, incinerate, or place near heat.

Nedocromil sodium side effects

Side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. Only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue using Tilade.

  • Side effects may include:Chest pain, coughing, fever, headache, nausea, inflamed nose and sinuses, sore throat, unpleasant taste, upper respiratory tract infection, wheezing

Why should Nedocromil sodium not be prescribed?

Tilade Inhaler should not be used if you are sensitive to or have ever had an allergic reaction to nedocromil sodium or any of Tilade's other ingredients. Make sure your doctor is aware of any drug reactions you have experienced.

Special warnings about Nedocromil sodium

This medication will not stop an asthma attack. However, you should continue to take it during an attack, along with a bronchodilator (a medication that increases air flow to your lungs) to relieve the acute symptoms.

If your symptoms do not improve or get worse, call your doctor right away; don't try increasing the dose to make Tilade work.

Medications that are inhaled can cause coughing and wheezing in some people. If you experience these symptoms, stop taking Tilade and notify your doctor immediately.

Possible food and drug interactions when taking Nedocromil sodium

No interactions have been reported.

Special information if you are pregnant or breastfeeding

The effects of Tilade during pregnancy have not been adequately studied. If you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant, notify your doctor immediately. Tilade may appear in breast milk and could affect a nursing infant. If Tilade is essential to your health, your doctor may advise you to discontinue breastfeeding until your treatment is finished.

Recommended dosage for Nedocromil sodium


The recommended dose is 2 inhalations 4 times a day at regular intervals. If you are doing well on that dosage, your doctor may try reducing the dose after a time.


The safety and effectiveness of Tilade Inhaler have not been established in children under 6 years of age.


A dangerous reaction is unlikely. However, any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.
