Siddha medicine: An ancient system of medicine prevalent in South India. The word Siddha comes from the Tamil word for perfection. Those who attained an intellectual level of perfection were called Siddhas. Siddha medicine aims at the immortality of the body and soul. Siddha has drugs that supposedly arrest the degeneration of cells in the body. Drugs compatible with one another are called friends and those which do not are enemies. The Siddha system advocates control of breathing and diet. Meditation and yoga are part of the system.
