Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment

Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment is used for:

Treating skin wounds and promoting wound healing.

Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment is a wound agent. It works by stimulating blood vessel activity and removal of unhealthy tissue. The castor oil works as a lubricant to protect the tissue.

Do NOT use Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment if:

• you are allergic to any ingredient in Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment

Contact your doctor or health care provider right away if any of these apply to you.

Before using Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment:

Some medical conditions may interact with Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following apply to you:

• if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding
• if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement
• if you have allergies to medicines, foods, or other substances
• if you have a wound that contains a certain type of fresh blood clot

Some MEDICINES MAY INTERACT with Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment. Because little, if any, of Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment is absorbed into the blood, the risk of it interacting with another medicine is low.

Ask your health care provider if Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment may interact with other medicines that you take. Check with your health care provider before you start, stop, or change the dose of any medicine.

How to use Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment:

Use Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment as directed by your doctor. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions.

• Clean the wound before applying Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment.
• Apply a thin film of Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment to the affected area. The wound may be left unbandaged or an appropriate dressing may be applied as directed by your doctor.
• To remove, wash gently with water.
• Wash your hands immediately after using Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment, unless your hands are part of the treated area.
• Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment is for external use only. Avoid getting Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment in the eyes, nostrils, or mouth.
• If you miss a dose of Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment, use it as soon as possible. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular dosing schedule. Do not use 2 doses at once.

Important safety information:

• Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment may cause harm if it is swallowed. If you may have taken it by mouth, contact your poison control center or emergency room right away.
• It may take several days for Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment to work. Do not stop using Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment without checking with your doctor.
• If your wound does not improve or becomes worse, check with your doctor.
• PREGNANCY and BREAST-FEEDING: If you become pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of using Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment while you are pregnant. It is not known if Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment is found in breast milk. If you are or will be breast-feeding while you use Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment, check with your doctor. Discuss any possible risks to your baby.

Possible side effects of Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment:

Contact 1-800-222-1222 (the American Association of Poison Control Centers), your local poison control center (http://www.aapcc.org), or emergency room immediately. Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment may be harmful if swallowed.

Store Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment at room temperature, between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C). Do not store above 120 degrees F (49 degrees C). Store away from heat and direct sunlight. Do not store in the bathroom. Do not puncture, break, or burn the canister even if it appears to be empty. Keep Balsam Peru/Castor Oil/Trypsin Ointment out of the reach of children and away from pets.
